Brunei’s only luxury hotel, the 6-star Empire won a TripAdvisor certificate of excellence in 2015. Here are six reasons to book this bayside gem of South-east Asia.

  1. Grand interiors

Stepping into the beautiful entrance hall with its swirling marble floors, white and gold marble pillars and glorious bay windows, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d strayed into the Sultan’s palace. It’s certainly big enough, with 518 rooms over 7 floors, and the gold, amber and blue decor matches the gorgeous sunsets you can see from your window. Which one will you pick?

  1. Decadent rooms

King-size beds with sumptuous Egyptian cotton, a private balcony and marble bathroom are standard, but Deluxe rooms and above offer free access to the E-club lounge. With their private jacuzzis, the Ambassador and Empress suites let you dip a toe in the water without even leaving the hotel. If you fancy a swim, the enormous Emperor Suite has all of the above plus a private pool, marble steam room and sauna. Once you’re refreshed and relaxed, you can enjoy its private cinema or let your hands run across the keys of its grand piano. This isn’t even the pinnacle of the Empire. The resort also has fifteen private villas, including the Royal Villa, which has its own pool and butler.

And that’s just the accommodation.  What about the location?

  1. Beautiful setting

Overlooking the South China Sea, the hotel has spectacular views of feathery palms, golden sands and glimmering blue ocean, as well as a private beach and man-made lagoon. But if you fancy seeing untouched nature, you can surround yourself in lush jungle less than two hours away at the Ulu Ulu and Ulu Temburong National parks, Freme Rainforest Lodge or the mangroves, where you may even spot an endangered proboscis monkey!

Of course, you’ll need plenty of energy for exploring.

  1. Delicious food from all over the world

The Empire has as many restaurants as there are continents! The Atrium Cafe, Zest and Bunker Bistro serve up a selection of local and international breakfasts, buffets and snacks. Pool-side Pool Deck has you covered with snacks and mocktails, and if you’re missing home, pop into the Lobby Lounge for a traditional English High Tea. Spaghettini’s Mediterranean food is great for the hot weather, or for a taste of beach delights, Pantai has got you covered with a selection.

Good food isn’t the only way to feel nourished at the Empire.

  1. Indulge or push yourself

If the whisper of waves isn’t relaxing enough, the wellness centre and spa offer gorgeous massages, mud-wraps and body scrubs. One of the best things about golf is it forces you to relax, so there is a course at Empire, of course. Designed by Jack Niklaus, it has 15 holes, with the very last running along the beach. For a faster pace there’s tennis, squash and badminton, a bowling alley, kayaks, and a Kids’ Club. There is a state of the art gym too, for those who want to feel the burn. If you’re saving your energy for exploring the jungle, you can still put your feet up while getting around.

6. Transport is easy

The valet service is a given, but our buggies whisk you swiftly between the resort, beach or your villa whenever you need. There’s also a 24 hour airport shuttle, so all you need to worry about is what to see, do and try next!

What will you do first? Book now to find out, and spoil yourself in an undiscovered, exotic location!
